Carving Pumpkins

We got some really great pumpkins at the farmer's market in Corbin. They were $2 versus the uglier, half-rotten ones at WalMart, which were $5...we've been trying to "buy local" as much as possible, and usually it's a better deal anyway. We've never missed a Halloween without carving a pumpkin. Daddy usually does it but this year we were determined to do it by ourselves and only let him document it.

We got a pattern book, even though Daddy likes to just do regular jack 'o' lantern faces. Chey chose an emoticon design and Liv chose a pirate/skull-and-crossbones.

Holly offered emotional support. She was very good and only got up on the table once, when a pumpkin seed landed close to her nose. She gobbled it down before we could stop her. Daddy happened to be taking a picture of her about the time the seed flew in front of her, so here you can see her jumping up on the table.

It took a solid hour but we think the finished product is pretty cool. Here's a picture of them in the dark.

And here we are with our pumpkins. Hope you have a good Halloween.
